Woodcroft is set in 8 hectares of rolling hillside, with 500 metres of frontage on the Lions River.
The setting is uniquely attractive in our secret valley, and in spring the gardens are a riot of colour from massed azaleas.
Nestled in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, Woodcroft is the ideal starting point for exploring the Midlands Meander.
The world-famous Mandela Capture Site lies nearby.
Refurbished to a very high standard for family self-catering, Woodcroft lies next to a succession of rapids and pools on the Lions River. An atmosphere of peace and privacy is disturbed only by the bark of a bushbuck ram, birdsong, or the babble of a trout stream.
FacilitiesThe large living and dining area is dominated by a character-filled fireplace for log fires. Two luxuriously carpeted bedrooms contain a queen-size bed in one, and two single beds in the other. A double bunk for small children is available on request, and there is a cot.
The well-equipped kitchen is finished in mellow Oregon Pine and, on request, the refrigerator can be stocked prior to your arrival.
ActivitiesWoodcroft is a central starting point from which to explore KwaZulu-Natal, or a place to relax and recuperate from stress.
The energetic can explore the Midlands Meander, (which has Woodcroft at its heart), run the Comrades or Meander marathons, swim the Midmar Mile, canoe the Duzi marathon, enjoy Victorian Pietermaritzburg, Art in the Park or the Royal Agricultural Show, dash off to the Berg, Battlefields or Beach.
The ideal is rest, gentle walks, fly-fishing, or swimming in the river, or simply to relax.
Excursions and distancesThere are several good restaurants and pubs within 10-20 minutes’ driving time, and we are only 12 minutes from Michaelhouse, within 30 minutes from Hilton College, St Anne’s, Clifton, Cowan House, Treverton, and Kings.
It takes 35 minutes to reach Pietermaritzburg, and 90 minutes to Beach, Battlefields or Berg.
